Beatniks were artists and writers who started a literature-based sociocultural movement in 1950s America. This Tumblr is all about them, their work, their inspirations, and those they inspired. I also include the evolution of faux beat culture into a 1950s pop trend as well as how the beatniks' influence continues today. I apologize for any reposts; it's difficult to remember what I have and have not shared.

Anne Waldman Performance Video
Last month, legendary poet Anne Waldman presented a selection of poems, including those from her new book, The Iovis Trilogy: Colors in the Mechanism of Concealment, a thousand-page epic montage which takes on the issues of war and patriarchy, published by Coffee House Press. Click here to buy book
Ms. Waldman was accompanied by celebrated cellist and composer Ha-Yang Kim with whom she has recently performed in Marrakech and Paris, and her son Ambrose Bye, a frequent collaborator who has designed breathtaking soundscapes for her poetry.
